The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line brings Europe and Asia even closer together and strengthens the strategic importance of our region within the global trade and logistics network. It was stated Prime Minister of Georgia while addressing the inauguration of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line.

The Head of Government of Georgia underscored the historic significance of the project and noted that it is yet another vivid example of the strategic partnership and exemplary cooperation among Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkiye.

“The Georgian section of the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line is one of the largest infrastructure projects implemented in the region. The section extending from Marabda to the Turkish border is 180 km long, of which 153 km of track underwent rehabilitation and reconstruction, while 27 km of an entirely new railway line built to modern standards was constructed.

Since 2017, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which had been operating in a trial mode, has transported over.8 million tonnes of cargo on a pilot basis, including nearly 90 000 containers. During this period, a clear upward trend in freight transportation has emerged, once again confirming the economic and logistical importance of this transport corridor.

This railway line is an integral part of the Middle Corridor, which plays a particularly important role in enhancing connectivity between Europe and Asia”, - said by Irakli Kobakhidze.

As he added, once the route becomes fully operational, the railway line’s annual capacity will reach 5 million tonnes, significantly increasing the region’s transit potential and further strengthening the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor

“This project assumes even greater significance against the backdrop of global challenges and crises, at a time when the diversification of international trade routes and the development of secure transportation networks have become essential prerequisites for economic growth. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line brings Europe and Asia even closer together, while enhancing the strategic importance of our region within the global trade and logistics network.

The development of international transport corridors is not only a key driver of economic growth but also one of the main foundations of stability in the region. Guided by this vision, Georgia continues to actively advance the development of strategic infrastructure, including the construction of the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port, the expansion and modernization of international airports and the upgrading of highways and railway networks.

Transport and logistics capacities are steadily increasing, further strengthening our country's role as a reliable and efficient bridge between Europe and Asia.

Georgia has enjoyed many years of close and productive cooperation in the development of international transport routes not only with Turkiye and Azerbaijan, but also with Armenia, the countries of Central Asia and other partner states.
