Georgia’s strong economic growth trend recorded throughout 2025 intensified even further at the beginning of 2026.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the country’s average economic growth rate reached 9.1% in the 1st quarter of 2026, while growth for the first 4 months of the year stood at 8.3%. In April alone, Georgia’s economy expanded by 6.2%.
“These indicators clearly demonstrate the resilience and stability of Georgia’s economy despite external shocks and ongoing geopolitical challenges…The turnover of VAT-paying enterprises increased by 10.3% in April compared to the same period last year. Business confidence also remained high, reflected in the number of newly registered business entities, which rose by 6.9% to reach 6,195 new units.
Strong economic activity in January-April was also supported by positive trends in foreign trade. Exports increased by 21.1%, reaching USD 2.44 billion.
Particularly notable growth was recorded in domestic exports - excluding re-exports - which surged by 73.5% to USD 1.55 billion.
The main contributors to economic growth in April 2026 were the manufacturing industry, information and communication, transportation and storage, education, healthcare, trade, and financial and insurance sectors.
Substantial progress in the industrial sector was largely driven by domestic petroleum production, which contributed 1.83% to the country’s gross domestic product”, - says the agency.
