Prosecutor`s Office of Georgia detained 6 police officers for violent abuse of power

The Prosecutor`s Office has arrested 6 people for the fact of violent abuse of power by police officers.

An investigation conducted by the Investigation Department of the Shida Kartli and Mtskheta-Mtianeti District Prosecutor’s Office, in coordination with the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, established that on May 27, 2026, in the city of Gori, the defendants exceeded their official authority by using violence when detaining the victim.

As a result of the violence, the victim’s rights were substantially violated, and his health was damaged.

"Based on the evidence obtained as a result of the investigation conducted in the shortest possible time, the defendants were arrested on May 28. They will be charged within the time limit specified by law, under Article 333, Part Three, Subparagraph "b" of the Criminal Code (abuse of official authority, committed with violence), which provides for a sentence of 5 to 8 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.
