At the initiative of the Prime Minister, an innovation is being introduced into the Law on Diplomatic Service. Under this change, the Academy of Diplomacy will operate as a Legal Entity of Public Law [LEPL] under the governance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Ministry will exercise state control over it.

The issue of establishing the academy was announced by the Prime Minister during a government session held on May 8. According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the Georgian Academy of Diplomacy will train highly qualified personnel for the diplomatic service.

The Parliament will begin considering the initiative under an expedited procedure this week. The amendments will be discussed today by the Education and Foreign Affairs Committees.
