Based on the joint nomination of Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia and Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, President Mikheil Kavelashvili awarded representatives of the Georgian Defense Forces with state honors.
The Head of Government of Georgia thanked the military personnel for their professionalism, patriotism and loyal service to Georgia and emphasized the important role of the Georgian Defense Forces in strengthening the country`s independence and sovereignty.
"The Georgian Defense Forces are a reliable pillar of our state`s independence and sovereignty. Today marks another recognition by the Georgian state of your tremendous service to the homeland.
Peace is the highest priority of our government and our people. It is the main foundation for the country`s progress and development. The primary guarantee of peace and security is a strong, modern army that meets high standards. This strength is based precisely on your military dignity and selfless dedication to your duty.
Today, we express our special gratitude to you. I congratulate each of you on receiving these well-deserved state awards - a fair recognition of your daily work and dedication in service to the homeland.
On behalf of the Government of Georgia, I pledge our continued and full support. We will consistently continue to strengthen the Defense Forces so that the army is equipped with modern infrastructure and equipment and that every soldier, officer and sergeant enjoys the best possible living and working conditions and receives proper appreciation", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
Representatives of the Defense Forces were also congratulated on receiving state awards by Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Irakli Chikovani.
For outstanding service to the homeland and the nation, President Mikheil Kavelashvili awarded the Commander of the Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili with the First Class Vakhtang Gorgasali Order. Seven representatives of the Defense Forces were awarded with Orders of Honor and Medals of Honor for their exceptional contribution to state-building and strengthening Georgia`s defense capabilities.
The award ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace.
