The Prosecution Service of Georgia has charged one person in connection with hooliganism and property damage committed near the Patriarchate residence.

An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that on May 20, 2026, motivated by religious intolerance, the accused drove a vehicle onto the grounds of the Patriarchate residence, where he damaged a barrier gate, an entrance door and a vehicle parked in the courtyard. Following the damage to the vehicle, he threatened persons present in the courtyard, expressed manifest disrespect toward society through threats of violence and disturbed public order. As a result of the accused’s actions, the victims sustained material damage in the amount of GEL 9,350.

The accused was arrested by law enforcement officers on the same day. He was charged under Article 187 §1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (damage to another person`s property) and Article 239 §3 (hooliganism committed using another object as a weapon), which carries a custodial sentence of up to 7 years` of imprisonment.

A psychiatric examination of the accused has been commissioned within the framework of the ongoing criminal investigation.

The Prosecution Service will apply to the court within the statutory time limit with a motion to impose pre-trial detention on the accused as a preventive measure.
