The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia reviewed energy connectivity, Europe’s energy security, and the strategic role of the Black Sea submarine cable project at the panel discussion held in Athens, Greece.

She was one of the keynote speakers at the panel titled Delivering 2030 - Leadership Commitments for the Energy Transition, organised within the framework of the energy summit.

"The Black Sea submarine cable project is among the most strategic initiatives launched by Georgia, not only for our country, but for the entire region. The 1,300 MW submarine cable will directly connect Georgia to the European Union market.

We discussed cooperation and the importance of countries joining efforts to strengthen one another, improve connectivity, and support trade relations. The energy sector is an excellent instrument for uniting forces and further expanding broader industries and economies.

The project’s economic feasibility study has already been completed. Construction of the cable is expected to begin within the next 2 – 3 years, while the project is scheduled to become operational in 2031-2032.

The Black Sea submarine cable project aligns closely with the Green Energy Corridor [a joint initiative between Georgia and Azerbaijan that extends beyond the regional framework] and aims to strengthen energy cooperation with EU member states", - said Marian Kvrivishvili.
