In order to fully provide the public with relevant information, we would like to respond to the manipulative and disinformation statement spread by one of the media outlets that the Interior Ministry allegedly spent budget funds inappropriately in the process of deporting illegal aliens from the country. Such a statement was released today by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“First of all, it is important for the public to know that the information spread is a complete manipulation, aimed at misleading the public.

During the period indicated in the statement, namely from June 2025, up to date, approximately 2,300 foreigners residing illegally in the country have been deported from Georgia, out of which only 2% were reimbursed for the costs of deportation by the state, while the remaining 98% deportees covered the costs of return by themselves.

As for the widespread misinformation that the Ministry spent up to 2,000 GEL on the purchase of tickets in one direction, to the country of origin of just one foreigner- this also constitutes deliberate manipulation. In particular, according to the requirements established by international standards, when an illegal alien is deported from Georgia, it is necessary to provide an escort (deportation) by migration officers in order to fully comply with security requirements. Therefore, the expenses incurred by the state include both the departure and return of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the travel expenses of the person to be deported.

It should be noted that in most cases, the escort consists of at least two members of the relevant department of the Ministry, although in some cases, at the request of specific airlines, the involvement of three members is required.

In order to inform the public, we would like to clarify that deportation measures are a legally prescribed process implemented in full compliance with international standards, the purpose of which is to prevent illegal migration in the country and maintain migration process. Effective enforcement of migration control is not just an administrative process - it is an important mechanism for protecting state security, legal order and the interests of the country. That is why the Migration Department continues the effective work and to maintain a safe and orderly migration environment in the country within the frames established by the acting legislation.

We call on specific media outlets and individuals associated with them to refrain from spreading disinformation, manipulation and unverified information in order to avoid deliberately misleading the public”, - reads the statement.
