Law enforcement officers seized up to 103 kg of the drug "methamphetamine", the value of which on the so-called black market is approximately 30 million GEL

As a result of jointly conducted operational measures and investigative actions, officers of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service under the Ministry of Finance exposed another fact of trans-national drug trafficking, Director of the Central Criminal Police Department said at today`s briefing.

"Law enforcement officers seized an especially large amount - up to 103 kilograms of "methamphetamine" drug, the market value of which on the so-called black market is amounts to 30 million GEL.

One person has been detained for the illegal purchase and storage of especially large amount of drugs and their illegal import into Georgia.

The investigation into the criminal case established that a truck belonging to one of the companies, loaded with caustic soda, entered Georgia from a neighboring country and was to be exported to a third country.

During a detailed inspection of the cargo, law enforcement officers discovered an especially large amount of narcotics distributed in bags.

In order to identify other persons involved in this case and bring them to criminal justice, relevant complex measures are being taken in an intensive mode.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, envisioning up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

The fight against drug-related crime remains one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Law enforcement officers conduct relevant complex police measures on a daily basis, with the aim of identifying and bringing to criminal justice those involved in such category of crime", - said David Kiknadze.
