35 years ago alongside the restoration of independence and the enlistment of the first conscripts, foundation was laid for the modern Defence Forces. Since then, this day has become a symbol of Georgian military spirit and state resilience – Kobakhidze

The Georgian army has always been and remains the main guarantor of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, stated Prime Minister of Georgia during his speech at the event in Vaziani marking the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Georgian Defence Forces.

The Head of Government of Georgia congratulated the Defence Forces on the anniversary and noted that 35 years ago - on April 30, 1991 - alongside the restoration of independence and the enlistment of the first conscripts, the foundation was laid for the modern Defence Forces. Since then, this day has become a symbol of Georgian military spirit and state resilience.

"Since their establishment, the Defence Forces have honorably defended the freedom of the homeland in every battle. At the same time, Georgian soldiers, alongside their partners, have fought with dedication in various parts of the world for global peace and security. Through your professionalism and bravery, you have earned the highest international recognition and the great trust of our partners. Today, with sorrow and deepest respect, we remember the heroes who fell for the homeland. I bow before the memory of those who gave the most precious thing-their lives-for the unity of Georgia and peace in the world. Their sacrifice is an inseparable and eternal part of our country`s history. Today, our Defence Forces are institutionally stronger than ever. We have a General Staff, regional commands and special units that meet the highest modern standards; and our key priority-military education and the upbringing of future generations-is served at a highly professional level by the National Defence Academy and the Cadets` Military Lyceum", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.

He also spoke about the challenges facing the world and the region, emphasized the peace policy of the Government of Georgia and congratulated 800 conscripts on taking the military oath.

"Today, when the world and our region face numerous complex challenges, our government continues to pursue a consistent policy of peace. Peace is the foundation for the country`s unification and development. At the same time, the Georgian army is always ready to defend our land and ensure the safety of our people. Our state always relies on your resilience and professionalism. Dear conscripts, the oath you have taken today confirms the great responsibility you have assumed for protecting the security and stability of our country. I believe your service will become the foundation of the lasting peace that is essential for our state`s progress and the well-being of every citizen. Once again, congratulations on the Day of Defence Forces and the 35th anniversary! May God protect our country and may God protect each of you", - added the Prime Minister.
