Over the last decade, we have significantly increased the area of protected territories, which currently exceeds 13% of the country`s land, while the share of protected ecosystems stands at approximately 23%. Our goal is to increase this figure to 30% by 2035, which is in full alignment with international targets. The President of Georgia said this during his address at the plenary session of the Regional Environmental Summit in Astana.

According to him, Georgia is in the process of transitioning to a circular and resource-efficient economy.

"In January 2026, the country introduced certain restrictions on single-use plastic products, which is a significant and effective step toward reducing environmental pollution.

Another key priority is the reform of water resource management. We are investing in infrastructure to increase access to safe drinking water and improve wastewater treatment capabilities, which will allow us to protect our rivers and natural ecosystems more effectively.

Agriculture and rural development remain central to our sustainable development agenda. We are firmly committed to modernizing irrigation systems and implementing climate-resilient practices and innovative technologies. We believe that these efforts will yield positive results both at the national level and in terms of achieving stability and progress throughout the region", - said Mikheil Kavelashvili.
