Lasha Shavdatuashvili became European Champion

Lasha Shavdatuashvili, competing in the 73 kg weight category, concluded the ongoing European Championships in Tbilisi with a victory. He defeated Azerbaijan’s representative Hidayat Heydarov in the final, becoming European Champion for the second time.

The final match was extremely intense and went into golden score. The judokas wrestled for 10 minutes, but neither managed to score a point. Lasha Shavdatuashvili forced his opponent into 3 penalties (shidos) and earned the gold medal.

His collection now includes Olympic, World, and European Championship (2) gold medals.
