The International Monetary Fund [IMF] has published long-term forecasts for the world economy through 2031.
Economic well-being is measured by the size of the economy (gross domestic product) in real and purchasing power parity per capita. According to the IMF’s forecast, Georgia is among the top three in the world and ranks first in Eurasia in terms of progress in real and purchasing power parity between 2013 and 2031.
According to the IMF, Georgia`s real economy per capita will grow by a total of 25.7% between 2024 and 2026, placing it in second place in the world in terms of three-year growth rate, after Guyana.
With this progress in the prosperity indicator in 2024-2031, Georgia will take first place in Eurasia. During this 8-year period, Georgia`s real economy per capita will grow by 61%. Bhutan ranks second in terms of growth rate on our continent, whose economy will grow by 58% per capita in the period 2024-2031, and India ranks third with a growth rate of 57%.
As for historical progress since the Georgian Dream came to power (i.e., since 2012), according to the IMF, Georgia is in the top-5 in the world in terms of real economic growth per capita in 2013-2025, and with a long 19-year progress in 2013-2031, it will be among the top-3 in the world and take first place in Eurasia.
According to the IMF, Georgia`s real economy per capita will grow by 175% in 2013-2031, followed by India, whose rate will increase by 163%.
Georgia leads Eurasia in terms of its nominal GDP per capita PPP growth rate over the 8-year period from 2024 to 2031. During this period, this indicator of well-being in Georgia will increase by 91% and will exceed USD 47,750 by 2031.
As for historical progress since the Georgian Dream came to power (i.e., since 2012), according to the IMF, Georgia is among the top three countries in the world in terms of GDP per capita growth rate for both 2013-2025 and 2013-2031, and with this long-term historical and forecasted progress, it ranks first in Eurasia.
According to the Fund, Georgia`s GDP per capita tripled between 2013-2025 and exceeded USD 31,352 by 2025. By 2026, Georgia`s GDP per capita will reach USD 33,990, closing the gap with EU member Greece by 5 years.
Greece’s GDP per capita was last at USD 33,000 in 2021 (at its new historical high at the time). For comparison, in 2012, Georgia`s GDP per capita was USD 10,358, and Georgia was exactly 30 years behind Greece at that time, matching Greece`s 1982 level of USD 10,488.
According to the IMF, Georgia`s nominal purchasing power parity economy per capita will grow by 36% between 2024 and 2026, making it the second fastest-growing economy in the world after Guyana.
According to the Fund`s estimates, the growth rate of Georgia`s nominal economy in US dollars will again be double-digit in 2026, equal to 11.9% and reaching USD 11,574 per capita. According to the Fund`s forecast, in 2027, the Georgian economy will reach USD 12,664 per capita, by 2028 - USD 13,879, in 2029 - USD 15,229, in 2030 - more than USD 16,720, and in 2013 - USD 18,353.
It is worth noting that the IMF forecasts that the average growth rate of Georgia`s nominal economy in USD will be 10% in 2026-2031.
