The Tbilisi Development Fund is embarking on the rehabilitation of historic buildings along Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani and Pavle Ingorokva streets. Such a statement made today the Mayor of Tbilisi.

“The Tbilisi Development Fund is launching one of the most significant projects our city has undertaken, the rehabilitation of the historic buildings on Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani and Pavle Ingorokva streets. The works, which commenced on April 17, are focused on preserving the authenticity of the historic heart of the capital and ensuring the complete restoration of its cultural heritage monuments. The tendering process has already been completed, 4 winning companies have been identified, each of which will carry out works across different areas within the stipulated timeframes. The project will unfold in two phases, encompassing both the overhaul of underground utilities and road infrastructure, and the restoration and rehabilitation of the buildings themselves”, - said Kakha Kaladze.

As he added, the 1st phase will address the chaotically laid and long-deteriorated engineering communications along both streets, involving the full rehabilitation of underground systems and above-ground utilities throughout the area.

“As for the 2nd phase, 21 buildings located on these streets will undergo full rehabilitation and restoration, for which approximately GEL 120 million will be spent. This phase will encompass the rescue of the most critically dilapidated structures, including the reinforcement of foundations and walls, the replacement of roofing, the restoration and conservation of timber structures and fittings, landscaping of interior courtyards, the refurbishment of historic entrance halls, the fabrication of decorative wrought-iron gates, and the reinstatement of authentic architectural elements. Eight of the buildings are situated on Sulkhan-Saba Street, with the remaining thirteen on Ingorokva Street. The total construction volume amounts to 45,000 sq. m., and as a result, living conditions will be improved for up to 450 families.

The project also provides for the restoration and rehabilitation of a historic tower, which will require particular care and a specialist approach. This is an enormously important project. Numerous buildings across the city carry the status of cultural heritage monuments. Unfortunately, many of them are in a state of serious disrepair, but we are diligently progressing with our programmes, carrying out rehabilitation works gradually and in stages. Owing to the planned works, traffic on Giorgi Leonidze and Sulkhan-Saba Streets will be restricted from April 18, and we will provide the public with detailed information on this in the coming days”, - said the Mayor.
