Meetings were held with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, we agreed on the priorities where their investments will be directed - Khutsishvili on the visit to Washington

The Minister of Finance of Georgia and the Governor of the National Bank, as part of their visit to Washington, met with the Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund [IMF]. The parties discussed the country’s ongoing reforms and plans for future cooperation with the IMF.

The Georgian delegation also held negotiations with the leadership of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank [AIIB]. The conversation focused on strategic areas such as energy and enhancing Georgia’s connectivity.

“The International Monetary Fund is actively engaged in supporting the implementation of economic reforms across a wide range of areas. Among the most significant is the reform of state-owned enterprises, on which Georgia and the IMF have fully aligned positions across every aspect of the reform agenda. We also discussed the challenges arising from the current geopolitical situation, both for the region and for Georgia specifically. It was noted unequivocally that the buffers and economic parameters Georgia possesses place the country in a uniquely advantageous position: it is entirely capable of hedging against all the risks that may emerge from the prevailing geopolitical climate and that could potentially affect economic development, both regionally and globally”, - said Lasha Khutsishvili.
