At a plenary session, the Parliament, in the I reading, unanimously adopted, with 79 votes, the draft Defence Code. The draft was introduced by Deputy Defence Minister Grigol Giorgadze, together with accompanying legislative proposals.

According to the amendments, provisions related to the military registration of conscripts, the organization of national military service for conscripts, and service within the Defence Forces of Georgia are further clarified.

As noted by the reporter, in order to refine procedural issues concerning secondary employment by military personnel, the validity period of the written consent required for such activity is specified as one year.

The draft law also defines procedures for summoning individuals for the purposes of military registration and conscription into national military service, in order to clarify relevant organizational matters.

According to the reporter, a decree of the Government of Georgia will determine the family members who may receive notifications/summons regarding a person`s military registration and conscription into national military service.

The amendments further stipulate that a person undergoing national military service in the form of contractual service, upon termination of the contract, will automatically be transferred to the 8-month national military service for conscripts (unless grounds for deferment, exemption, or serious family circumstances apply).

"The amendments specify that the rules governing the service of civilian personnel employed in the Defence Forces of Georgia - including recruitment, dismissal, incentives, and disciplinary liability - will be determined by a legal act of the Minister of Defence of Georgia", - said the reporter.
