Economy grew by 8.8% in February, we are successfully sustaining a rapid rate of economic development - Kobakhidze

Economy grew by 8.8% in February. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia.

"The data for February`s economic growth has been published, showing an increase of 8.8%. Consequently, the combined average for January and February is 8.4%, a figure of great importance.

We are successfully sustaining a rapid rate of economic development. The revised data for 2025 has also been released. Last year, growth reached 7.5%, with the Gross Domestic Product [GDP] at the end of the year amounting to GEL 104.6 billion. This marks the first time our economy has surpassed GEL 100 billion. It is a notable milestone.

Let me to remind you that in 2012, our economy was roughly four times smaller, at around GEL 28 billion. In USD, our economy now stands at approximately USD 38.1 billion. We have compared our growth rate with that of Moldova on several occasions, and our data are quite similar.

It is also important to highlight that over the past 5 years [2021 – 2025], the gap between our economy and Moldova`s has grown by USD 14 billion. This means the disparity between our budgets has grown by more than USD 3.5 billion. Such developments are critical factors in the country`s overall progress, and in the future, we will place particular emphasis on further economic development", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
