Mikheil Kavelashvili attended a memorial service for the soul of Ilia II at the Sioni Cathedral

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, together with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, and representatives of the executive and legislative branches, attended a prayer service dedicated to the Day of the Restoration of the Autocephaly of the Georgian Church and a memorial service for the soul of His Holiness and Beatitude, Ilia II, at the Sioni Cathedral.

The Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne, Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri) of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, conducted the church service together with high-ranking clergy and priests.

Today marks the ninth day since the passing of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II. Additionally, March 25 is the Day of the Restoration of the Autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church.
