The Agriculture Committee held an offsite sitting in Zugdidi, where it heard information on the activities of “Georgian Amelioration” for 2025. At the sitting, the General Director of “Georgian Amelioration,” Gigla Tamazashvili, presented the company’s 2025 performance report and spoke about future plans.

Gigla Tamazashvili informed participants about the current situation in the sector, achieved results, and existing challenges. He discussed ongoing and planned projects aimed at the rehabilitation and modernization of irrigation and drainage systems.

According to the reporter, in 2025, a reorganization was carried out within the company, resulting in the establishment of qualitatively and functionally new directions, including a Commercial Directorate, the Samtskhe-Javakheti Regional Service, a Dispatch Service, and an Information and Training Center.

Tamazashvili also spoke about plans for 2026. According to him, a system (billing) for planning and administering commercial processes will be created, and a dispatch monitoring system will be introduced. In addition, new service centers will be opened in various cities.

At the committee sitting, Avtandil Tskhvitava, a representative of the Asian Development Bank, delivered a presentation on the topic: “Drainage – Progress, Findings, and Prospects”.

According to the Chair of the Committee, Gela Samkharauli, particular attention in the legislative direction will be paid to refining and updating the existing regulatory framework, in order to better reflect modern requirements for the management of both irrigation and drainage systems.

“‘Georgian Amelioration’ operates in two opposite directions: on the one hand, the focus is on irrigation of land areas, while on the other hand, in Western Georgia, particular priority is given to drainage infrastructure, since excess water damages agricultural plots. We plan to actively cooperate in these areas with ‘Georgian Amelioration’ and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture”, - stated Gela Samkharauli.

The Committee took note of the information. Representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, local authorities, and donor organizations attended the sitting.
