Statement by the Strategic Communications Department of the Government Administration

During a televised debate held last Saturday, one of the participants of the program, Zurab Makharadze, disseminated information regarding the purchase of land near Bazaleti Lake by foreign citizens.

Given the public interest in the issue, we would like to clarify that the mentioned non-agricultural land plot was transferred into the ownership of the Public Broadcaster by the Government of Georgia in 2006. In 2007, the Public Broadcaster subsequently sold the land plot to The Training Center LLC, whose 100% stake was owned by the non-profit legal entity The Knowledge Fund, a company founded by the then Minister of Economy, Kakha Bendukidze.

On December 18, 2019, the private owner sold the land plot to The Yorktower LLC, which is currently named The York Holding Group LLC, whose 100% stake is owned by a citizen of Egypt.
