At its plenary session, Parliament deliberated in the I reading and adopted, by 80 votes in favor and 9 against, amendments to the Election Code of Georgia. Amendments aim to clarify certain electoral procedures, including issues related to the registration of international observers and their accompanying interpreters.

The draft law was introduced by the Chair of the Procedural Issues Committee, David Matikashvili. Under the draft organic law, the procedure governing photo and video recording and audio monitoring by individuals at sessions of election commissions shall be determined by a decree of the Central Election Commission of Georgia.

Pursuant to the amendments, an international observer may only be a foreign citizen who has attained the age of 18. The draft organic law also establishes the procedures for the registration of interpreters accompanying international observers.

The authors and initiators of the draft law are MPs: Archil Gorduladze, Tornike Cheishvili, Rati Ionatamishvili, Aluda Gudushauri, David Matikashvili, Guram Macharashvili, Akaki Aladashvili, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Alexander Tabatadze, and Irakli Shatakishvili.
