As a result of investigative activities carried out, Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia has detained three individuals for taking and giving large amount of bribe.

Senior specialist of Budget-Finance and Procurement Department of Samgori District Administration of Tbilisi Municipality has been detained for taking large amount of bribe; Investigation Service detained representative of a company operating in Tbilisi for giving a bribe and one citizen - for assisting in taking a bribe.

Investigation determined that public official, using his official power and with the help of an intermediary, was taking a large amount of bribe. In particular, he demanded and received GEL 15 000 as a bribe through an intermediary in exchange for protection of construction of a facility on a state-owned land plot without relevant permit documentation.

The accused persons were detained immediately after receiving requested amount as a bribe. Cash was seized as evidence.

Investigation also determined that in February 2026, in exchange for protection of illegal construction on a facility owned by one of the companies, representative of the company gave requested GEL 15 000 to the same public official again through an intermediary. In this episode, representative of the company has been detained on the fact of bribe-giving.

Investigation is underway under Article 338, part two, subparagraph “b” and Article 339, part one, of the Criminal Code of Georgia. Crime envisages imprisonment for a term of seven to eleven years.

Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance calls on public officials and persons, wishing to enter into criminal transactions with them, to refrain from such illegal activities. Response of the Service will be strict in any case.
