12 years have passed since the Shindisi battle. On August 11, 2008, 17 Georgian soldiers were killed in a clash with a Russian military unit.
“August of 2008 was the most difficult period for Georgia. We suffered the loss of our friends, brothers and children. Today their parents are standing at their memorial and I can’t even find proper words to condole them. It’s very hard and difficult for them, just like for any other Georgian and I think that these heroes should be the example for the future generations, our children, everyone. We have to do our best to prevent such grave tragedy that we suffered in 2008”, - said Gomelauri.
